Windows 8.1 perfects the Windows 8 vision of providing a greatly appreciated, desirable collection of apps and cloud connectivity on great devices. Windows 8.1 was based on Microsoft’s vision of innovation and the feedback received from the customers; this helped to provide many improvements and new features:
– more Start screen personalization options and boot directly to desktop option
– Bing Smart Search and expanded PC Settings that were previously exclusive to Control Panel
– new apps such as Bing Food & Drink, Bing Health & Fitness, Reading List, Calculator, Alarms
– work Folders ( so that Windows devices could connect more easily to corporate resources )
For Windows RT users, Windows 8.1 also includes a version of Microsoft Outlook to the already available Office 2013 RT suite. Still, it does not support data loss protection, Group Policy, Lync integration, or creating emails with information rights management.
Windows 8.1 received a quite positive reception, with critics praising the expanded functionality available to apps in comparison to 8, its SkyDrive integration and the addition of expanded tutorials for operating the Windows 8 interface.
